Soggy Tuesday

Breakfast of cloudy, rainy, hazy mornings: pb toast, melon, coffee.

When my mother and brother returned from Kansas, they brought my grandmother with them.  She's still grieving, and we hope to cheer her/ love her/ distract her for the next few weeks.  I hung out with her today, and brought my TJ's Super Spinach Salad for lunch.

I picked up this delicious agua fresca (and a few other items):
Water, blackberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, kiwi, mango, pineapple, strawberry, and watermelon. YES. Basically, drinking candy.

By dinnertime, the rain had stopped but I kept coughing every time I went outside.  Lo and behold, the "haze" I was seeing all day (you can't even see the mountains!) was smoke.  From Canada forest fires.   Just another reminder that this is a tiny planet.

Veggie dog and oven fries.

See you on Thursday!

  1. Oh no, there really is no rest for the weary!! That is crazy, I heard about the fires and the smoke coming over here. Hopefully that is all under control soon :(

That is really nice that you are all going to be spending time with Grandma. I think time with the family is exactly what she needs to help get through the grieving process.

That agua fresco looks phenomenal!! I am totally going to start making agua fresca, it sounds so refreshing! And I think making horchata is on my list of things to make this summer ;) Random thoughts. The salad looks fresh and delicious and dinner is classic summer.

    1. It was super rainy here yesterday (just like Tuesday), so the forecasters said that will help settle the smoke. I just made sure to keep doors/windows closed for my little lungs.

I spent time with her yesterday, too. I'm "off" today and tomorrow, so others can entertain and cheer her. I love her, but the negativity is hard.

Oooh, I haven't had horchata in an age! The process sounds involved, but I'd love to see what you make!!

  2. I had no idea about the forest fires. The world is small but too large for me to keep tabs on...
The agua fresca DOES sound fantastic. Not sure I am clear on what it is though - is everything blended together? Strained?
I like the breakfast toast/pb/plate color combo.
Good wishes to yr family and especially yr grandmother.

    1. I didn't either. I haven't been watching the news too often, so I made sure to watch it on Tuesday. We had air quality warnings through last night, so I kept my doors closed. Apparently after having pneumonia, my little lungs are hypersensitive.

I didn't know the answer, so I Googled it: macerate fruit of choice, cover in water and sweetner (if using). Refrigerate at least 4 hours, blend, strain, add more water. (So, pretty involved!!)

      Thanks for love, Maud!!

  3. The planet is really not happy at the minute where you are. I hope things settle down and give you a break before too long. Hope there are more agua frescas and grandma time on the way.

    1. I think it is a summer special for Whole Foods, I've seen other varieties but this is the first one I purchased. Good stuff!

Verbatim from Grandma: "nobody cares that he died!" "People ask how I'm doin', how do you THINK I'm doin?!"

    2. Ouch! She sounds very depressed. Guess she is closed off to all suggestions for coping.
