It's Finally Here

Woo! Spring Break!


But I am not there, I am here.  At home, and not working - which is almost as good. So far this weekend, there has been a lot of sleeping, some cleaning, some time spent with my brother, and some exercise.  Additionally, a few new things:
 Vegan Cookies from Whole Foods! Crispy Chocolate Chip and Everything.
(I tried half of the chocolate chip - decent, but not super flavorful.  Everything cookie, only a bite thus far - so good!)
 Tried the new Daiya cream cheese.
 This is an onion bagel, so it might not be a real review of the product - but it tastes alright to me.

And Frankie came over to play.

While I do have to actually get work (for school and around the house) done this week, I'm going to try to have a little fun.  For example, I'll try different teachers at the studio and go to classes offered at different times.  Tonight I'm heading to a Restorative Yoga class.  I'm envisioning a lot of laying down. Ha!  Hopefully I can catch up with a few friends, go on a hike, and do a little experimentation in the kitchen.  I realize that when I say "experimentation", and you know I live in Colorado. . .but it will not involve pot brownies, mmmkay?  See you soon...

Canine Love

Backstory: Terra, my parents' dog, must have injured herself on Sunday when they were not home.  She was limping, holding her paw close to her chest, refusing to lay down, panting, and whimpering.  Terra's improvement was minimal, but my parents went out of town on Tuesday anyway (don't get me started), and my brother couldn't take her due to work commitments (he has stayed at their house, and has been freaking out each night, calling me for advice).  Thus, I ended up leaving work early today to take her to the vet.  Their diagnosis: soft tissue injury, most likely from falling down stairs at the house, also a little arthritis (she's almost 14!).  She's on anti-inflammatory meds for the next 10 days with little activity allowed.  However, she loves to be outside (and considering she's not to go on long walks, this was the least I could offer). I followed her into the back yard after she had a dose of medicine, and she mostly stood around - only putting a little weight on her right leg.


 Remy was there for moral support.
 "Do you smell that?" he asks.
 It's hard for Terra to lay down or get up, but here she is - almost looking relaxed - still favoring that right leg...
Send positive and healing thoughts to this beloved family member, may she feel well again soon!

Two of Five

I'm so happy that two days are in the books for this super long week. I swear each day feels like more than 24 hours.  At least the weather is lovely, considering all of our field trips involve public transportation and walking.

A Weekend

Saturday: Spring Snow Showers all day.  (Today it is in the upper 50s)

Nicely folded yoga blankets, and similar colored mats all tucked away at the studio.  It will be totally destroyed by the time I take a 5pm class tomorrow night. *sigh* 
 For lunch this week: Lasagna Roll Ups (pressed & seasoned tofu, and kale inside).

This week ahead will be a long one: we're spending each school day with a fixed group of students studying an interest area.  My group is the Justice System.  The students will prepare for a Mock Trial, listen to guest speakers (an attorney, a judge), visit a Bail Bondsman, Police Station, Colorado Supreme Court, and sit in on a Legislative session at the Capitol.  In between all of that will be lessons on law, math, and public speaking.  Myself and one other teacher will be doing this together.  (I did this exact week last June, for those of you who might recall.  I anticipate we'll do this week yet again after finals late May/early June.)  Wish us luck!

Spring It On

The last two days, I've enjoyed the same smoothie for breakfast: frozen banana, spinach, chocolate brown rice protein powder, and almond milk.

I went to Gentle Vinyasa today, giving the new teacher one last try - and I'm just not feeling her style.  I've established a home practice, and will instead devote Thursday workouts to that.  I was really hoping that she would do more overall stretching, as I am super sore from yesterday's RideTRX, but it was just hips and a little hamstring.

Six more work days till Spring Break (it's super late this year - first week of April)...

Winter's End

Don't let the beauty fool you:
The "feels like" temperature is 27 degrees. It was 71 degrees yesterday.  It did snow today, but because the ground was so warm - it has all melted.  

Back to the eats: Van's Gluten Free Waffle with peanut butter and maple syrup.
 Friday night, my neighbor had a couple of us over for appetizers and drinks.  She sent me home with a container of her Whole Foods inspired quinoa-cranberry-spinach-garbanzo bean - almond salad.  Super yummy.  I added a side of kale with balsamic vinaigrette.

It was a lot more spinach when I started.  Topped with salted pepitas and garlic powder. Potato wedges and ketchup.  Hot tea to follow shortly.

Yesterday's Align & Flow was pretty tough, and I let that be my excuse for not going to yoga today.  The truth is, I know I would have felt better after going -and I still decided to stay home.

Uphill

This week has been all uphill. Long workdays (state test has been over the last three days: nine and a quarter hours of proctoring is never fun), and general lack of sleep equals a cranky lady.  I left work a little earlier today, and had a nice long walk with Remy in the sunshine.  Once tomorrow afternoon hits, I will have an adult beverage and go to bed early. Ha!

Also, I've been lazy in the kitchen.

 Whole Foods Vegan Tamales.  Still no forks at work. . .  A student teacher who has spent the year with us mentioned that she had tried these, and knew they were good.  The other coworkers looked on in envy as I ate.  ;)

P.S. Also teacher world related: Friday is Pi Day (3.14), so eat some pie.  Saturday is the "ides of March" (3/15), so if you're Julius Caesar, stay home and you won't be killed. Or eat a vegan caesar salad in remembrance.

I'm guessing that three closest skiers are my aunt, uncle, and cousin (they drove up from TX - the same ones we visited last June).

Show & Tell

First, I'll tell: I did it! I went to Trader Joe's and purchased things I don't need! Some items in my basket were healthy, but generally I went in to peruse the aisles for about 35 minutes.  Everything I purchased was an impulse buy. I waited a little in line, but that was just because the two people in line ahead of me were Chatty Kathys with the cashiers.
Everyone I know raves about the PB pretzels, and I think I've actually had them previously. The pizza is for tomorrow night.  Chicken-less Crispy Tenders.  Shen: I walked the frozen section three times, read each tag, and found no meatless meatballs. When an employee happened to be restocking, I asked her - they currently don't have them.  They are still figuring out their "buyer demographic" to determine how much meat/non-meat to carry, but she is vegetarian and said she wanted them to be there too! Fingers crossed!  In six months, another location opens within a five mile radius of me - I'll check there as well.
