Hotness (Cont.)

Today's field trip focus was finding jobs in the medical field.  We visited a hospital, and the Denver Animal Shelter.  It is a new facility, and a no-kill shelter.  I held a skinny three month old mixed breed puppy, whom they found in a box in an alley about three weeks ago.  It was hard not to cry.  In fact, it was hard to see all of those faces, albeit in clean cages with fluffy pillow beds (and heated floors in the winter) and very nice staff (we were there for an hour, and minus the vet tech who was giving us the tour - everyone bustled around, not minding us). I wanted to take a few home with me!
Yes, that is a giant glittery canine out front.  A few of our students applied to work as volunteers, which I consider a success! However, between both destinations and another three miles in the hot, hot sun - we were fried.

Leftovers for Lunch:

Quick and cool dinner:

Due to my heat exhaustion, I did an easy home practice of slow flow yoga.  Tomorrow is a teacher work day, so no more field trips (til Monday)! Hall-le-lu-yer.

  1. I hope you wore lots of sunscreen today! That does sound exhausting yet more fun than sitting in a classroom....
I'm not sure i could handle seeing those animals, but its really wonderful that some signed up to volunteer! Hopefully you can stay out of the sun friday and yoga on through the weekend.

    1. We have more field trips Monday and Tuesday, and I have the sunscreen ready! It's hot in the classroom, and outside - but at least we have distractions!

It was definitely tough to see them, and to not want to take all of them home with me. But then I'd be a hoarder, and we know how that will end! Ha ha!

    1. Abby, I only recently learned that the "glittery" appearance is because it was made out of dog tags! So cool!

    1. I was hoping you'd see this post, as I knew you'd love that dog! I skipped both of my plans for yesterday and watched three episodes of "Orange is the New Black". Ha! I needed the downtime, clearly. ;)

  4. Aww how amazing that you went to an animal shelter and even more amazing that some students signed up to volunteer! It sounds like an amazing shelter with good people doing great work. And the glittery dog is AMAZING, I want one in my front yard.

Oy, the heat is so brutal. I hope you were able to stay hydrated and cool. Hooray for a work day, at least it's a little bit of a break from the craziness I imagine you must be dealing with going on all of these trips.

    1. I learned later that the silvery glitter effect was due to its construction out of dog tags! So cool! It was my first time there, but many students had already been in.

I am so ready to not be at work right now! My classroom was 88 degrees each of those days. And I left work early yesterday, as my inner introvert needed some down time or risk having a meltdown. Ha!

  5. This reminds me I should post the story of how I volunteered at the shelter and took a dog and the sheriff was gonna come after me and so forth. I can't volunteer there anymore.

Anyway, you know Remy would love a little brother or sister.

    1. Oooh! Do tell! Ha ha!

Down the road, I definitely see that happening! Right now, he loves his BFF Frankie next door. They whine for each other nearly daily, so I often ask for play time that they might chase each other for a while.

  6. Aw, it must have been tough to visit a shelter. So nice that some of yr kids got into it, though. What ages are they, again?
The food all looks great. Is that milk or yogurt with granola and blueberries? Unless there's a sale, berries are still pretty expensive here...but maybe they don't get any cheaper.

    1. Shelters are difficult, and I was worried about going. I felt better about it once I heard they are no-kill. Our group was a mixture of high school freshman and sophomores!

So Delicious Coconut Yogurt! Organic berries are on sale right now - $2.99!!!
