Weekend Check-In

After three days of this:
The sun is visiting us once again. (For now - there's more coming on Tuesday.)

I met up with a couple of friends at BookBar
This was Saturday's special: Chili-Infused Chocolate Latte with Almond Milk.

Whilst there, a friend gifted me a homemade candle - which came in this adorable reusable bag.

The cold weather has me pining for hot food, and I bought the ingredients to make more Tomato Coconut Curry Soup (but with a different side - I'll show you later this week!).  For now, I'm off to clean at the studio followed by watching the Superbowl with my parents and brother.  Win or lose, I imagine this city will be nuts post game.  See you on the other side!

  1. We're finally seeing the sun today after a week of gloom & snow. It's uplifting!

That latte sounds really good. Nothing like a hot drink with a bit of a kick to warm you up!

Such a cute little bag. What scent is the candle?

Have fun watching the game! Mike's rooting for the Broncos. :)

    1. It doesn't take too long to miss the sunshine! The next three days might be a little rough with this next system moving in. . .

I agree - I'll have to recreate it at home! I love local shops because they are more inclined to play with the menu. The candle is supposed to be lavender, although I can't smell any particular scent thus far. Perhaps as it continues to burn?

Let's not talk about the game! Ha ha!

  2. Love the candle and bag! Am also curious - does the candle have a scent? What a fun craft to do.
The latte does look fantastic and Book Bar is such a cool idea. The latte is beautiful.Almond milk is still not really a thing that's offered in many places here (that I know of anyway.)
I've been to bars with books on the walls but I'm pretty sure they were not for the buying, haha. If we sold alcohol in my store I feel like there would be a problem...

    1. She said she added lavender oil, but after about two hours of burning - I haven't smelled anything yet! She picked up the glass at Goodwill, so there is probably a story there, too!

I've encountered two local shops that offer almond milk (and soy), and it's such a treat to have it instead of soy. I feel like the soy milk at Starbucks makes me have heartburn if I have it too frequently.

I went to Bar & Books in NYC when I visited in 2006, and yes - it's a dangerous concept. ;)

  3. Just looking at the snow makes me sad but I'm glad you saw a little bit of sun and were able to get out! And what a lovely excursion! I love the idea of the book bar and the latte looks gorgeous and sounds incredible! Definitely something I would love to try. I'm with Maud, you rarely see almond milk as a choice around here and I love that it was an option for you!

How sweet of your friend to give you the candle. The bag is so adorable too, what a lovely gift. :)

Hope you are enjoying the game! I have no idea what's going on haha and the commercials have been kind of boring but hopefully it will all pick up. I can imagine it will be crazy over there so have fun and be safe!!

    1. It has only been in the last year that almond milk has been offered at local shops! I'm so thankful! I mean, there are soy-free, non-dairy coffee drinkers in the world, right?!

Yes, such a thoughtful gift - she's a crafter, and has come up with some cute stuff!

My brother was so intense, he left after the first quarter. He went to the mall where he bought his $100 Broncos jersey, and returned it! He's not a fairweather fan, and has other shirts, but just bought this one on Friday. Apparently he wouldn't "waste money on a team that decides not to participate". Yikes!

  4. Why are your friends and neighbors offering you reusable baskets & bags lately? What does it mean?

I'm with Sarah on the game, I've no clue what's going on and the commercials so far are boring.

    1. Ha ha! I don't know. Maybe they think I need bags for stuff? ;)

Yeah, I only half watched - it was a little intense at my parents house.

  5. Oh that does sound like a special drink!! I wish more cofee shops had almond milk around here.....
Are you a snow sports person? Cross country skiing? Snow shoe-ing? Snowball fights? I think that's the only way i could deal with so much snow.....
Hope your super bowl party has good munchies!

    1. I would love to snow shoe, but I can't afford skiing. Luckily snowball fights are free. ;)

Hummus, pita chips, veggie tray, blue corn chips and salsa.

  6. Fancy coffees and presents? That's a weekend well spent. Being on the wrong side of the pond, I don't get the whole football thing, but I've never yet heard anyone explain why the adverts are such a big deal. I thought those were the bits you were meant to fast forward through!

    1. When you put it that way - it was a weekend well spent! I'm on the football side of the pond, and I don't understand it. I think the commercials just have a bigger audience, thus use high interest actors, and ultimately cost millions to produce. It's crazy how much money can flow through a couple of hours!
