Random Eats & Treats

I've seen these kale chips on a couple of blogs, and decided to try them for myself
Alive & Radiant's Quite Cheezy Kale Chips.  They were $6, on sale, and tasted fantastic.  However, they tasted identical to the recipe I've used in the past to make cheezy kale chips at home.  The main difference is consistency - those that I made were never quite dry enough.  I plan on borrowing my father's dehydrator and seeing if that doesn't fix the problem.  Bottom line: I don't have the income to support buying these, but they taste really good.

The Go Raw bars are still on sale, 5 for $5, so picked up a couple more pumpkin flavor bars as well as these:
I'll let you know how they taste!

Also new to my kitchen:
Nature's Path Organic Pumpkin Raisin Crunch, on sale $3.
This morning, I hosted a few friends for brunch.  I didn't move fast enough to take pictures ahead of time, but there was plenty of what I made to show you afterwards anyway:
I made vegan waffles, served with berries and maple syrup.  The ladies, who are not vegetarian or vegan, brought other items that they enjoyed as well.  One gal brought a vegan scone, which no one had - lucky me with the leftovers! Ha!
We took care of one bottle of champagne for mimosas, and a bottle of prosecco was leftover - lucky me, again!
I suppose it's time to get ready for the week. . .*sigh*.  I love weekends! I hope your weekend has been fabulous.

  1. Haha lucky you indeed!! Leftovers are always awesome :) It looks like you added quite a few great things to your pantry! I've often felt the same about kale chips from the store... super tasty but nothing I can't make myself for WAY cheaper. Great buy on the bars, can't wait to see how you like them! The cereal sounds tasty too, yum!

How fun that you hosted a brunch!! I seriously love hosting brunches and dinners too. I bet it would be so fun and tasty to go to one of your brunches :) Your waffles look gorgeous and you can't lose with leftovers!! Nice job with the mimosas too, and I'm sure you'll find a place for the leftover prosecco ;)

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend! Hope your week goes quickly!

    1. I can't wait to try out the dehydrator version of the kale chips. So. Excited. The bars are really good, with the exception of the spirulina. Not a good flavor.

There are so many different dishes I wished I had prepared at the brunch, but at least the company was great. I'm going to have to come up with a good reason to drink a bottle of prosecco! Ha! Thank you, I hope you would enjoy a brunch with me! :)

I am hoping it goes super quick - so tired already!

    2. I heard that replacing orange juice with apple cider in a mimosa is pretty much like heaven in a glass! I feel like you should try it and let me know if it is worth the headache ;) I can't drink champagne unfortunately... I get a headache within hours, wah!

  2. You'll be interested to know that just like we associate Molly with Airstreams, and Miss Rachel with Wax Beans etc. I associate you with Waffle Irons. I was standing in the Williams Sonoma outlet a couple weeks ago staring at the Waffle Irons and thinking of those Blueberry Waffles you made a long time ago. Was able to resist buying...for now.

    1. Too funny! I am happy to be associated with waffle irons. Blueberry waffles will definitely happen during my winter break!

  3. I must be the only vegan who doesn't like kale chips. I wish I would! I've tried them twice now & ended up giving them to the pups for treats.

Mike has been enjoying that cereal lately. Nature's Path makes such great cereals. That's quite the deal on those bars!

The waffles that you made look so good. What a great brunch and wonderful that there were some leftovers for you to enjoy!

    1. You are not alone! I think you have to try this brand though, they are so incredible. I'm hoping to get around to the cereal soon, I bet it is really good!

I hope to exercise some self control and not have waffles at all three meals. :)

  4. That brand of kale chips are delicious, but quite expensive. And I agree that it is easy to reproduce the flavor- I also agree about the consistency. I don't have a dehydrator and have to use the oven. Yum--your waffles look good!

    1. I can't wait to try out homemade kale chips in the dehydrator. I wish they would turn out when I cook them in the oven!

  5. I read somewhere that if you make yr own kale chips, you should save the silica packets that come in vitamins and kale chip bags and other snacks and throw them in a container with leftover kale chips to keep them crispy. It doesn't help with making them crunchy when you first cook them, nor does it really help if there aren't leftovers but.. I thought I'd share, because it was pretty cool. of course, you would still have to buy kale chips first to get the packet but...ah, anyway!
Score on the brunch leftovers. I rarely encounter leftover alcohol.
I've had that banana bread flax bar - I liked it a lot! Hope you do too. Not a bad weekend you had yrself ;)

    1. I noticed that bag of silica, and was a little grossed out. But now that you have educated me in its purpose, I am at peace! :)

I think the mimosas went slowly because we also had water glasses and coffee/tea mugs to sip out of on the table. Looking forward to that banana bread bar!

  6. Indeed I have seen those chips, but haven't brought myself to buy them as I know I could make them much more cheaply, not to mention that the amount in the bag is very small. Great that you had a vegan brunch complete with mimosas - yum! The waffles look spectacular. Enjoyable leftovers are always a good thing.

  7. OHAAH! You bought the Alive & Radiant. Nice, huh? But yes, so much cheaper to make it yourself. I'm going to do it this weekend! Can't decide which flavor to make though...suggestion? I like the cheezy ones the best I think! :)
