Happy Saturday

I was determined to not make my own breakfast this morning.  The only item available from the Whole Food's hot bar was a breakfast burrito I have sampled before.
While convincing myself I should give it another go (only semi-impressed with it), an employee started to chat me up.  She said a gentleman co-worker had taken the initiative to offer a vegan hot bar item in the mornings - and it had become very popular.  I mentioned that no other Whole Foods in the area had done that, and she knew it to be true.  I decided right then and there to support the "hot bar vegan breakfast movement"!

Tortilla, tofu, potatoes, chilies, onions, soy crumbles, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Mid morning, Remy and I walked a little over 3/4 of a mile to meet a friend for coffee.  (Soy latte)
Repeat the walk back home.  This is our total trip (including sniffing, leg lifting, and stop lights)
1.77 miles, 45:05 minutes, finishing pace 22:18.  I'm really more interested in the mileage, folks.
Lunch time! Toasted onion bagel, Galaxy "cream cheese", cucumbers.  It's official - time to step away from the bagels.  I'm swearing them off till summer break.

Lazy afternoon, followed by an invite to dine at Root Down with a close friend.

Conversation was so good, I forgot to take pictures until the second dish! At that point, I felt awkward bringing it up - so, I'll tell you what I had (in order): Cup of Organic Cold Pea Soup, Sweet Potato Falafel, Veggie Burger Slider.
**Soup - not so great, but perhaps because it was raining outside, and cold soup does not improve the situation?
**The Falafel (three pieces, thus one and a half per person) was fantastic!
**The Veggie slider (two sliders, so we each had one -  plus sweet potato fries to share) itself was a lentil patty that was so delicate it needed to be eaten with a fork, not really a burger.  The taste was superb, nonetheless.  The gluten-free buns were a little chewy.
All of this was washed down with a Cardamom Gin Fizz.  Awesome.

All in all, I'd go again!  In fact, I'd do the whole day over again.  :)  See you tomorrow!

  1. A great Saturday indeed! That is really cool that an employee took the initiative to have a vegan item added to the hot breakfast bar. It actually sounds really good so hopefully it tasted good as well.

It's so nice that you and Remy got out for a nice long walk, had some time with a friend and had a soy latte on top of it all. Sounds like a great way to spend the morning/afternoon.

Stepping away from bagels was the hardest for me. It is one of the few gluten-y foods that I still partake in once in a while because I love them so much.

That's great that you got to share dinner with a good friend! The meal sounds really lovely, I'm very intrigued by sweet potato falafel! The sliders sound delicious as well.

I'm glad you had a great day and I hope tomorrow is just as great! have a good night Ingrid!

    1. It was good, I might do something different to it though. Regardless, if my purchase helps bring more items - I'm willing to bite! Ha! It was a great morning, I love coffee dates with friends - even more so when I can bring Remy.

A bagel drought is necessary - I don't think they are helping me in any way, even though they taste so good! It'll be tough, so I might lean on you for support! :)

I wish I could get over my embarrassment, as pictures really would've helped. It was a tapa style menu, and the falafel was really tasty, probably my favorite of the night.

Thanks, Sarah! I hope your Sunday is going well!

    2. Haha I'm here for bagel withdrawal support anytime you need ;) I'm still not confident enough to take photos in restaurants so I know how you feel! We'll get there!

  2. Sounds like a really nice day. A good breakfast and coffee and a nice walk usually bode well for the rest of the day. Sweet Potato falafel will do that too. :)

    1. It was a great day! I absolutely agree; the morning rituals make the day. Makes me even more excited for summer break and my new work schedule (it'll be an hour and half later than my current start time).

I haven't had falafel in forever, and this was definitely fantastic!

  3. Piling on here about what an excellent day you had. Can't imagine getting to bring a cuddly pup with me to have coffee. That must be a Denver thing.

    1. Perhaps it is! Denver and Boulder are particularly dog-friendly, but we have some pretentious suburbs who don't allow you to walk on the sidewalks of parks, with your dog. I want to punch them in the face!

The average dog population on the patio that shop was three. Other people would tether their love-muffins and get coffee, and leave. Lots of places have water bowls set out, encouraging us to bring the canines along! I don't usually tie Remy up outside of places, and go in. He's too cute and trusting. He might get stolen!
