Photo Food Journal

It's a busy weekend starting tomorrow evening, so I thought I'd better take care of the food today!  Breakfast was super quick (it started snowing overnight, and continued through today - thus, needed extra commute time in the morning).  Oatmeal with peanut butter and ground flax seed, big cup of black coffee.

Mid-morning, a quarter cup pulled out of the tamari- roasted pepitas bag:
Lunch was courtesy of Whole Foods, purchased last night:
Afternoon snack:
I also had some pretzels once I got home.  For dinner, I realized I needed to use up some baby potatoes, cremini mushrooms, and broccoli.  Trying to find a way to "glue" it all together, I realized that I've yet to sample this:
At first, I followed the directions by only adding a 1/2 cup of liquid, but decided to make it thinner - so 1/3 cup more of water.  Due to me adding sauteed shallots and mushrooms to the mix, it looks more like a gravy  than alfredo sauce.
There are two baby potatoes underneath the "cheesy gravy".  The sauce itself was light, yet definitely cheese-flavored.

There is a 100% chance of me drinking some heated WestSoy Chocolate Peppermint Stick later on this evening.  December + 8 inches of snow +  14 degrees = hot chocolate.

Coming up: trying a new recipe

  1. Haha, snowy with a chance of cocoa! I'm digging on raw pepitas lately too, tamari must be great on them.

  2. Wow 8 inches of snow! Here I am being cranky about being cold in 38 degree weather and you have 8 inches of snow and 14 degrees! I agree that hot cocoa would be in the forecast :) Salad looks yummy and the sauce looks interesting! Would you eat it again? I like the combo you put together, sounds very hearty and warming! I'm so jealous of the Chocolate Peppermint Stick. I can't believe I haven't found it yet!

  3. Maud - the two really go hand-in-hand. I don't crave hot cocoa unless it's snowing! The pepitas are fabulous. My co-workers think I'm super strange for either drinking green smoothies, or noshing on seeds every morning.

Sarah - Just remember that Colorado is an arid state, so our "cold" doesn't feel nearly as bone chilling as the coastal states. So, I believe you that it's cold there! I do have another packet of the sauce, therefore I'll try it again without any additions to see what I really think of it. Otherwise, it was good - just not mind blowing!

  4. I have a few packets of that sauce. I assume it would be great cuz I love their gravy.

  5. Hi Shen! I did notice they carried different types of sauces and gravies - if I'm feeling adventurous, I might try a different one! Also, I've tried the Wayfarer "cheese sauce" on pasta - and it's pretty tasty.

  6. I just made the sauce tonight. Not sure what to say about it. I suppose I'd buy it again.
